One thing that I,v missed out on the blogs was a buisness post , during my research I came to realise that companys would be interested in going up for the raw materials , up out of the atmosphere , there's an iron ore which is found on metorites which is apparently 1000 times as pure as the iron found on Earth, Photons also float around space , this is a knew form of energy that could be trapped and utilised much like solar power. Considering these things I eventualy decided to aim my pproject at buisness men (and women). This is why the second poster talks about a space commerce center and its also why the posters have a corperate kind of style , not totaly formal but quite (as I want to attract the tourists too!)

Research Finding Nemo

As I want to do a fish animation , I thought I'd take a look at the obvious choice "Finding Nemo", I know that I wont be able to create an animation as technical as this so mine will be quite simplified down in comparison. There is things I can take from this piece though, like the way they glide through the water and the way there bodies are maid to illustrate whate they are talking about, i also like the humour that Fish can conjur up, for its easy to feel sorry for a Fish and just as as easy to laugh at one, as you can see.

I'v decided to my final Maya animation on two goldfish, (its a story I devised in my sketckbook). So I put this video up here for quick referance on how they move and react with each other. I noticed that sometimes they move closer to another fish then jerk away. Things like this should improve the movement in my work , if I study them accurately. Id like to make my fishes fins move like they do here too.

My Xwing animation

Here's a pic of the "x-wing fighter" craft I modled. I did this using a tutorial. Mainl I created this by creating a Nurb primitive cube and extruding faces off it. I then painted things with paint tool . I then maid a path for the shuttle to go around the meteorite and put in a key frame where it would begin and end. This was how I learnt some basics of modelling and animation.

Computer Animation

Here is animation created in maya ,as you can see, it is a program with immense power. This animation I find has a niece smooth style and lots of humour involved! This is possibly how I'd like to have my animation. Though now I need to come up woth an idea! I like the way things move particulary in this , gravity is portrayed well here.

Stock frame animation

Heres a niece stock frame animation. Stock frame animation is done by modeling something , moving, it, taking a picture and so on. I quite like the style and mix of colours in this add. The animation is very smooth too ( though its what you except if Sony is going to use it). Though I think stockframe would be interesting to do-I'd rather use a 3-D editing software as Id rather use something that I havent tried before.

Should reach a comprimise?

I was watching the Aliens film t'other day for some futurisic inspiration.
Was good.
Though I like the one with Winona Ryder best as she is v v v pretty, (not many woman could pull that short hairstyle off, )well I think so anyway.

ANyways thats besides the point , I've been thinking about the pod for my space lift. I thought I want something stylish , something different to what we have today . When I saw Giger's craft design I was grabbed , I think I will use this kind of organic shaping and slick finish . Though I've been looking at NASA's pods and realised I will have to meet some sought of compromise . This I will do for I may have to keep the thing quite small and streamline to keep it mobile and I could still use an organic kind of shape.
While finishing the final design for the pod I will keep these things in mind.

Animation! my own little sketch

Heres a flower I animated in photoshop, I first drew all the scenes on a flip-pad, then scanned into Photoshop. I then added them into a timeline. I quite like the way the leaf drifts off , though it isn't very smooth , I still like it as animation. It does look quite delicate.

knew idea development for space travel

hey,

when I was looking through some info on the "railgun" , I read that it fired an electrical charged line which somehow created a parrel charge which alows you to glide along , so I was thinking maybe my space lift should be run using a similar mechanism , so that it floats straight up with ease , or glides straight up. I think this would be more suitable than a massive kind of average escalator , as this idea would be more futuristic.

Anyway I'l draw some idea's up and let you see what I mean.

Animation research-Newtons

Heres a much better animtion of Newton's cradle .

The good

The balls seem to travel with grace , gravity and tension. Thye slow when they get to the top , and speed up when they are about to hit. The way the balls on the other side react is very well timed too. The balls even move and react when the collision happens the balls all jitter alightly. Its impressive also that creater bounces 7 balls at a time at the end.

The Bad
I couldn't really pic a fault , apart from its a bit dull , though how fun can you make a Newton's Cradle?

This is a much bigger improvement on the stock frame animation I looked at earlier!

Nanotechnology

The image above is a prediction of a nano bot which is proposed to help repair damage cells and monitior the status of your insides. Though that pic which was crreated in 1999 now does show its age . For scientists have now created a nao sub that can travel through the bodys blood stream. There is a picture of this type of thing below , its made by a lazer which maps out fibers similar to that of the patterns of your finger prints. The machine can travel through arteries , but is not yet advanced enough to go through human arteries (just animals).

Nano-technology was derived from nature , for instance the pads on the geckos feet have small hairs on them , which in them have smaller nano hairs , this is an evolution to help the gecko stick to things.

I thought maybe it may be useful to include nano tech in my research in case I find a use for it in the space scheme!

The Bad,

Here's a stock frame animation of Newtons cradle , I think this is a rather jerky and poor portrayal of gravity . For the balls don't seem to have much energy , they seem to travel fast and yet go no distance.

The Good,

errrrrrrr... Funky style (not much going for it really), the fact its so bad you can see the string pulling one of the spheres up on the right.

Heres a doodle I added some colour to it (rather quickly) , I think its messy but quite a niece idea , for the shuttles are big so you have room to float around and the pods are different colours to attract different audiances (as will the features inside that arent shown). Anyway I'd say this is a small stepping stone to the right idea , I guess also from now on I should make some more refined ideas!

Yeh well ,



Two weeks ago I played Halo3 for the first time (offline) , I enjoyed it slightly , slightly because it still seemed similar to the old Halo games and after a while you get tired of fighting multitude of enemies in similar scenarios (and similar graphics , well on normal screen anyway) . Well I did any way.
Then the other night my cousin recieved an Xbox 360 for his Birthday , so I embraced the oppurtunity to go round and play it , though this time I was able to play it on line , some thing I'd never done on a 360. First I was amazed amazed by the loading to time (really quick in relation to the playing time) , but yeh the gameplay was ace when I got on it , you can have a tonne of people online at once, at multiple scenarios with loads of knew weapons . The knew mines are pretty cool to wreck cars with and such , it took a while getting used to it all but once you do its ace.
Thats a brief summary but I'm not a games reviewer and I arent going to spend ages rattling on about the tactics and such. As that would just get dull . If you want an in-depth review go on Ign or gamester.
Though one other thing that was excellent about it was , my cousin had the headset so you could really have a go at people(Immature I know) , hours of fun , I couldn't believe that you could here every body who had one , it just shows how fast technology has grown.
Well there my enthusiasms about the game anyway.

These two sheets , show and idea fro the carriage that takes them up (the left) and a basic representation of the kind of mechanism that will take people up , its like a big elevator!.
I think the idea on the left maybe a bit to dull , it doesnt look futuristic enough , though I quite like the pic on the right , I think its prett cute . If my target audiance were children I'd use a style in the final similar to this I'm sure( of course a lot more polished)



Heres some more carriage ideas , Im quite please with the look of them actualy , I think they look pretty futuristic and spacious , though they may benefit from having two floors!. I know this would make the thing on a massive scale but its the future ! things thought of un achievable today , will be achievable then. The things on the left are ideas for VR glasses , I think I could probably do with some more inspiration!

Seu Jorge - From favella dwella' to movie and music star!

I thought I'd take a break from writing about the space idea, to write about something else I found interesting.
Recently I stumbled across this knew musician who I have to admire. It was when I was watching the film "City of God"(A film which displays the harsh realities of streetlife , it follows child to trying and survive the violance on the streets of Rio De Janeiro.)The film was great , one of the best I've seen of the past 10 years (and in the film they used many people from the slums themselves to play the characters , this I thought was very sincere and clever)My brother told me that one of the characters in the film who was dragged into the violence (knockout Ned) is a singer/guitarist(in real life) famous in Brazil .




I was half interested...Then he told me Seu had been in a Bill Murray film in which he played a musician who covered Bowie tracks in Portugeuse. I was interested. Then my bro told me he'd done a soundtrack for this, of Bowie songs translated and adapted to Portugeuse. I had to get it. So I did , and above my expectations the guy can sing and play guitar amazingly. I think hes done so well in life to come from living in a favella in Rio' to becoming such a succesful artist , though its no surprise the guys got talent. Vocals and guitar.

Onboard entertainment

I watched the Matrix the other day , partl in search for inspiration , partly becuse the first one is the best and I hadn't seen it for a while. Anyway one of my favourite bits is where Neo Jacks in to the training session for the first time. This realy is Virtual Reality for thats what the matrix Is. O think I may include VR machine in the cabins of the space wheel , though maybe not all for people would want to enjoy the views . I did look into VR on a few sites , and they say its in development ( its even used for training pilots and soldiers in some areas), though at the moment its hard to get it a really high resolution. though they say in the future it wont be a problem!

Animation Brief

For are latest brief , we'v been asked to create an animation where to objects interact and show emotion. Though the objects dont have to be too complex , we have to show a movement sequence and portray reactions between the characters/objects. First I will animate something simple to try and get the hang of it. I have done flip book animations before, though I'l try some other types of animation . Over the next couple of weeks I'l do some research , into animations showing relationships.

Space Cabin Enternaiment,



Well recently I'v been thinking about what I may have un my cabins , to entertain people. For many different types of people will wan to go into space . So I needed something that would satify those different audiences (ya know : kids , couples , families and whatever) . So I thought I'd need something flexible , something most people could use and enjoy . I came across this computer table , (through a friends recomendation) the table I think would suit most people . As you can see it looks easy to use and fun , I mean this is just one now !, in the year my space tour is launched there could be 3D versions that you can play games with and such,(for the kids) adults/couple/fmilies could watch movies on it or search for information on the net. Or you could just eat on it?
The type of people that may want to travel to space in a modern machine would I think feel inclined to use the table for its entertaining features. If not you could just read a book on it.
+ there could be different style cabins with different tables.

Anyway its an idea, a hologram emitting table for entertainment. SOunds pretty good to me.

Its a rather futuristic looking piece isn't it ?
Thats why i thought I'd research it and see if I could use in conjunction with my space wheel.
Basicaly this is a solar/photon powered energy generator. It turns light energy from this sun into electrical (thats not ultra knew technology) , also it generates energy from photons ,(thats modern technolgy) basicaly it collects photons that fly around in space , In physics, the photon is an elementary particle that creates electromagnetic madness!. It carrieselectromagnetic radiation of all wavelengths, including gamma rays, X-rays, ultraviolet light, visible light, infrared light, microwaves, and radio waves.
Strangely The photon is massless, has no electric charge and doesn't spoil randomly in empty space. Thus the particle can fly around above the Earths atmosphere in space itslef.
I think the photon is a very interesting knew discovery. For it seems it is a knew form of economic energy . Scientist have also being creating knew kinds of lazers from this element. This I seee also as a step towards the sci fi films. If were still discovering knew elements and energys then who knows what kind of energy we'l have in the future?
Maybe these plasma styled cars you see in Sci-fi's will become somewhat real or similars made.

I think its all very posiible.

So yeh I may use these photon sails as an energy source for my space wheel , or maybe even to power a capsule in space that keeps you up there , in case there is a breakdown , for comfort and security n' all!.

The other day on my way down to Cornwall I was bored in the car. I was thinking a oui bit about a few things , people , work , college etcet . Luckily enough at the time I'd started to think about college work , something caught my eye . Well you know how I was thinking about a space travel vehicle ? You should any way! But thats besides the point , the fact is I was looking for something that could be a renewable , luxurious method of transport . So I had to find something different from a rocket.
And there it was (back to Cornwall) ,sat in some form of fairground on my way down to Cornwall!

A ferris wheel!

Well not exactly, I was thinking I could make a type of space ferris wheel that takes people up into space. So I think thats what my ideas will be based around now > So I may further my research into things that I should consider to put in my cabin , as a source of entertainment , or essential things.

Anyway thats the way I think I'l do it.

Space idea development

Hello again!

Well I've had a look at Nasa's site and I'v realised that:

A: Space shuttles at the moment are one use objects , (they carn't use them again for they break by the time they get back to Earth)

B: NASA are creating robots that will do humans work on the moon and such!

C: They have a quite diverse range of foods , which is good going for my project as people will be able to dine!

Pretty interesting stuff, so maybe my idea for people going into space shouldn't only be for a space shuttle, ( though in the future they may design a more robust model) but I think there could be better way of getting people into space in a higher multitude , for a shutle it is hard to make it luxurious.
The Robot thing is also interesting to , as if NASA are producing robots now , then maybe I could use them as some kind of tool on my vessel/space transporter.
If food can be variated in space I could almost create a dining evening in space offer for couples!

A multi-million dollar project , to make space travel available/saleable to people.
The rocket he's playing with is a model of the real thing. It can propel people into space safely and back . For basicaly the shutle which consists of two parts (the gliding distributor and the rocket ship itself)glides just below the top of the earths atmosphere , then it drops the rocket ship down(which contains the passenger) and the rocket ship engine fires itself straight out the earths atmosphere into space!. When in space the ship straitens itself (due to the shape of it, it does this with out aid from the pilot ,it just does it naturaly). Another feature is that if a passenger has trouble whilst the ship shoots out the atmosphere , the passenger can switch of the engine , then the ship will just glide and land naturaly.
I think this is an amzing achievement for the shutle is re-usable and safe , I think my poster could be based around space travel , though I think in the future they could be an even better way to get into space this idea creates a multitude of future products to advertise whithin the main idea, so that is what I think I will focus on now.

Here he is talking about, Mr Branson , doesn't it remind you of one of those sci-fi things though? with the leader of a massive corperation trying engross the public to spend money on his product? .....meh, maybe its just me.

Evaluation Of personal piece.
For this piece I was asked to produce a piece which shows something about myself (I could portray as little or as much as I wanted) , I think my piece shows quite a lot about myself , but in a very symbolist way , though I like this for you have to look deep in the picture to disc other deep things about myself.
My piece shows I like technology , referenced by the electrical current which the subject is created by ,
I think my piece also shows that I’m quite a spiritual person for the bird itself is quite tribally influenced. I think it almost looks like a spirit itself , I think the piece kind of shows a neo type of spiritualism with the spirit being created by this electric current , which is a symbolism of modernism.
I think you can read into this as deeply as you like and it would still be quite accurate to who I am , the main criticism I have is though if you just glanced at this piece and didn’t read much into it , you’d only scratch the surface.
Generally I’m very pleased with this project , I managed my time well , I made the imagery from scratch ( I painted them and scanned them in , then edited them.)
I think maybe the headphones are quite sketchy ,though I kind of knew this when I was making it but I didn’t want it too like your typical rave poster , also I’m not an ultra neat person .

Ok , for this brief we had to create something that displayed something about ourselves. I chose to make a kind of symbol of a bird being created by music , for I think music is one of my main drives and inspirations in life. It effects who I am in a way . In this piece it is a bird that is created by the headphones (music) for the bird symbolizes me in the way that I like to travel , and I just thought it would work visualy for its a niece syntrical shape. I'd say I'm free like a bird in my own way (kind of do my own thing). The way the bird is almost an electrical current is also a metaphor indicating my enthusiasm for technology . Any way enough about me. First of all I painted the bird and earphone( I thought this would give it some of my own character) I then scanned it into photoshop , then live traced them into illustrator.
I decided I'd like to use a black background to make my main items stand out brightly in the forground( so I could use a glow which you will see).
So I selected the insides of the headphones and bird , then made them white with the paint bucket tool. I also then doubled the earphone and put them at both sides of the landscape page.
For the bird I edited the feathers with the twirl tool . I did this by tracing the image and then expanding the image (this makes the lies become editable).
I made the wings kind of swirl out towards the headphones , so it looked like the headphones were firing them out . I also distaughted the birds face with the swirl tool , to make it look like electricity. I thought this would make it look even more like it was created by electricity .
At the ends the wings I used the ripple tool to make it look like the wings wete almost coming out of the headphones like sound waves.
After I'd done all this I copied and pasted each element into photoshop so that I could add colours and effects with more complexity.
First of all I deleted the black parts in the headphone hole (to make it look like the wings were coming out of them.
The I selected the bird with the magic wand ( seleceted the black part , then inverted the selection.) and filled it with the live paint bucket and added more other colours onto it , though I didnt think this worked well so I deleted those colours.
I thought Id have to do something to make it look electric , so again I selected the bird area , made a new layer beneath this , filled the selected area and then made a glow behind it. I then also coloured some bits of the bird , doubled the headphones and put them other each other to make them more 3D.

That is how I created my piece , the making of it is above in asending order , you click on them to enlarge them.

Future Technologies , warfare

In my search for inspiration for ideas for a future product advert I found some pruducts created for warfare . eg
This gun here has been developed to shoot round corners , it uses a camera above the nozel that adapts to the surroundings to keep a clear image , this is so soldiers aren't put at risk or can check around the corner before commiting themselves. A pretty effective good idea . Though apparently it can be a pistol which is a bit short ranged. Though knews just that they've created a grenade launcher that fires around corners. I've also heard that they have developed a laser gun that blinds people on the battle field (for a blinded solier is useless and would render another soldier the same , for he'd need to be helped out of combat). Though tehy say this weapon is too dangerous to the user at the moment and doesnt comply with human rights (anyway that could all be myth).
The army have also created amazing knew aircraft , like the B-2 bomber , which can meet altitudes that most plains can not , and due to its shape and radar seems it can be almost completely undectable to its enemys , the machine costed around $2.1 billion dollars (it seems obvious why such money is spent , for in the future I think if war is to embark , bombing will be the main form of combat) . Though I don't think war will ever happen , I see this as more of a defense . eg its America saying "don't start with us we've got this!". Also its a statement to America/s wealth.
Like I said earlier on , war is maybe the main factor in the acceleration in technology. Though in the future human survival may be (A pretty funny juxtaposition really). Anyway I'l go onto to talk about this in my future blogs.
Yeh so basicly my knew product add could be an advertisement for something that will become availible or saleable in the future , in the context of combat , or an for a product featured to encourage people to join the army , like a laser canon or what not , anyways we'll see.

Have you seen the film Minority Report?(pic above)
Well in that film theres a Computer that is used by using your hands to manualy guide data around the system. This was a prediction of the future only a few years ago , but Technology is moving so fast that already its looking to become a interface used in the near future.
They have already made something which is very close to this design , as you can see in this clip , the PC that this mans made looks very similar to that , that Tom Cruise wields in Minority Report . It looks a very simple inerface to deal with , the machine acts less like your average PC as it gives you alot more freedom and control. I believe what the mans saying is also very apparent to what may happen imn the future , for he says basicaly Technology shouldn't neccesarily need to be cheapend or dumbed down yto make it accesible to all users , nope he says really it should be smartened up. For as you can see this Technology looks very simple to use , someone could learn quickly I think by just atching someone else.
I think this type of Technology will be delved into in the Future by big companys , for the easy accesiblity would make it desirable to man audiences (and the more audiences , the bigger the market , the bigger the profit)

Upcoming technologies.

Well after looking at the second life program , I've been thinking about doing an advertisement for a Virtual Reality program. But this other technologies give me other ideas.

Ok well earlier on I found out some info on Mp3 players that you can use in conjunction with everyday items such as clothes , watches and now even those running shoes (that change the track depending on your tempo).Oh and the other day I had a listen to my uncles phone Mp3 player using some bluetooth headphones. I was quite amazed that the data could be transferred to the headphones with out wires!(the hardware was bluetooth- a company that specifies mostly in wireless communication) I think this is a pretty advanced leap in technology , that wires are no longer needed to transfer data . If you know this is what we can do now then imagine the future ! , I think the devices we will use will be minute , and I think most likely they'll just tap into your brain wirelessly (using some kind of signals)
I think they could be accessories like MP3 earrings (things that just look like normal gold studs or whatever) that send music to you head. Its an idea anyway for lots of people like to promote the fact they have the latest technology.

Future Technologies brief ,

Okey coke here is my avatar . I created this character on the virtual reality program second life . This program alows you to create your own character and live a virtual existance by , working , buying , flying, dancing chatting and many other curious things . Though there is no vilonece on second life , I guess its supposed to be a somewhat perfect/niecer version of reality . I see this program as quite an achievement really , though graphicaly it isnt too stunning , though if you put it on context as a small download created maybe more than 4 years ago its quite an achievement.
This program gives you a glimpse of the future , I mean if this is what they cand do now in the future what will they achieve?
Well thats a stupid question , everyone knows that Virtual Reality will become availible if not part of everyday life.
I heard a famous doctor once say it isn't the difficulty in the creation of knew technologies that restricts its limits , its the "M word"-Money.
I believe him , for the reason war always brings an advance in technology is because in war there are no limits to fundung , the government will splash out , eg.. If he decides he wants a knew stealth plain to slip in , spy , then bomb , and get away with out been noticed , he'l spend on it whatever it takes.

This is the final step in his creation , I took all that time on everything else and with that hair he just looks like every other disco Stu fool.

So I whent to the hair sales place , though there wasn't any good hairstyles, I thought the archetecture was quite swell , oh yeh on Second Life you can create buildings , clothing and accesories.

This is an Jacques Brel song Im pretty fond of. Brel was a Belgium born singer/poet/film star and director! (though he sang in French). He was huge in the 50s an 60s (in France). Though quite alot of people round other countries know of him too. "Seasons in the sun" was originally a Brel song , then it got converted for the English/ American market. Theres also a famous Brel song called Amsterdam which was covered by David Bowie early on in his career. Brel was a huge influence for Bowie in the way of his lyrical charms and great stage mannerisms (the way he acts out his words particulary).

This song is ab about a man falling in love with a girl , who has a hideous (I dont know if thats how you spell hideous as Iv never wrote it before) family that doesn't like him. So the song starts of slow with Jacque ripping the piss out of each member. I say the family s hideous though this could just be the biased view of the man (though they do sound nasty). I find it hilarious how he matches his movements with his lyrics , and the lyrics themselves are splendid . Though the great thing about this song is the build up , it seems though he's restraining at the start , acting snappy . Then he lets it all out.
Theres also a touch of humour when they he say something like:

"They say Im only good for skinning cats!"
then,
"But I nver skinned any cats"
then
"Well maybe one but it was asking for it!"

Its good to see a touch of humour , shows he dont take him self so seriously!.
